Hurry up and WAIT!!

I remember asking Marc Sterling, one of the producers of SEDONA: THE MOTION PICTURE, when we would be starting preproduction, and how anxious I was to get started as Production Coordinator. After all, both my partner and I had been pounding the pavement since February of this year telling all within ear shot about the project, the benefits to the community for jobs via the tourist draw and production workers needed, and the tax advantages to the potential investors in tax credits, both state and federal. I thought there must be something I could do to get the ball rolling while the script was out to our first Hollywood actress and investors awaited news about our pick. The answer I got was, “Hurry up and wait”.

That comment seems to ring true more than ever these days as we forge ahead on new paths, careers and lifestyles re-examining our lives and seeing what truly fits. Life is so hectic these days and often we tend to make it more so by thinking that busy gets the job done, rather than doing what you can….and waiting. There are so many wonderful places to “pause” around our beautiful town and appreciate its divine splendor. For this very reason, Tommy Stovall, the writer/director of the picture, will be filming entirely in Sedona and showcasing our beautiful vistas, and of course our quirky community with its amazing cast of local characters.

Timing a movie production start date can be a little tricky coordinating all the pieces together. First, our lead actress’ schedule determines ‘when’ the production begins. Plus, some of those job titles you’ve seen on movie posters need to be worked into the schedule as well as wardrobe, director of photography, lighting, grip, editing, etc. Tommy has been working behind the scenes assembling the crew but then he also must, “Hurry up and wait”.

I’ve decided to fill up my ‘wait’ time with blogging and hope I get a few comments or posts to keep this going. Just a comment before closing that resumes should go me at Terri@SedonaMovie.com. I wish you all well and hope to see you soon as part of the production, or the very least, as an extra in the film. The whole movie making process is fun….fun…fun, and oh yes, a lot of hard work. So, “Hurry up and don’t wait”, at least this time, and drop me a line what you think this film will do for the community and how important film is to this town.

  1. I recently found out about this movie through an e-mail from my University about the auditions. Looking at the short description on the web site, I’m excited about the opportunity to audition. I also think that so far it sounds like it’ll be a fun movie to go see as well. I wish you all luck on this production and hope the waiting won’t be for much longer!
